Overall Condition Good. Most of our pieces have spent decades on at least two continents, and have been treasured by several owners.   Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. Additional Information:  Lidded Box decorated with a carved face and geometric design patterns. The top rocks, as is common with these boxes from the Kuba People of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The kuba (or Bakuba) have been described as a people who cannot bear to leave a surface without ornament. Known for their raffia textiles, they are equally known for their carved palm wine cups and cosmetic boxes, such as this one. These are generally used to store the tukula powder and paste, which is used to ornament the face and chest during dancers, as well as to anoint bodies for burial.
