Additional Information: A superb wicker shield showing  geometric motifs painted in white, blue, and red. This shield comes from the Mongo  in the Democratic Republic of Congo and is well preserved.  The Mongo group also uses wooden shield carved in the same shape than the wicker ones. As war armament, such shields were used for protection during combats. They were also used as dance regalia during funerals of avaliant warriors and during communal hunts to celebrate the deceased bravery in war as well as this of the all warriors in the community.
