Additional Information: A creatively designed standing figure, this carving displays one of the styles not often seen in African art.  The Kwese carving style is not particularly well known.  This particular figure is charactarised by a unique pose with abstracted arms, chest and hips.  The neck is long and the face is elongated with a round chin and flat top.  Equipped with a custom base, this prominent carving is prepared for immediate display in your collection!

The Kwese number less than 100,000, and neighbors Congo region tribes such as the Pende and Mbala.  The Pende influence on their art is often ovbious at first glance.  They are known for the masks, many using the helmet design, used by dancers and in initiation ceremony.  When not used for ceremony, such masks were kept in special houses as fetish objects and offerings were made to them.
