Additional Information: A cast hairpin beautifully decorated with a design of an elegant bird on top. Such pins were worn as adornment in the coiffure by both several peoples in West Africa , including the Asante and Baule as well as the Bobo, Bwa, Gurunsi, Senufo, and many other groups. Motifs on the top vary from one hairpin to another. Variety motif of bird   are mainly  found among the  the Baule, Asante and Fante. Such hairpins are a result of skill artists using a lost wax method to vary their decorations which go from simple, abstracts, figural and complex representations. Wearing a adornment with bird may be an indication that the owner belongs to a high social rank.
