Additional Information: The kuba (or Bakuba) have been described as a people who cannot bear to leave a surface without ornament. Known for their raffia textiles, they are equally known for their carved palm wine cups and cosmetic boxes, such as this one. These are generally used to store the tukula powder and paste, which is used to ornament the face and chest during dancers, as well as to anoint bodies for burial.
