Overall Condition Good. Most of our pieces have spent decades on at least two continents, and have been treasured by several owners.   Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use.  We examine each piece carefully when we receive it and report any damage we find in our listings.  Please look carefully at the pictures which may also reveal condition and damage.
Damage/Repair repaired crack in top of crest; scrapes and scratches

Additional Information: The geometric patterns and color scheemes make this undoubtedly a Bobo mask.  But the animal it represents is unclear.  It has the pointed ears of a deer, and a mouth(?) that is narrow, perhaps like a bird.  The huge axe-shaped crest is the dominating feature, and will make for a breathtaking mohawk when worn on the top of the head, as we presume this mask was worn during ceremony.  The unique and creative nature of this piece mean it would be adored as part of any collection; the custom stand is perfectly fitted and ready to display immediately.

The Nyanga masks danced by the Bobo people of present day Burkina Faso appear to entertain the townspeople and in the past accompanied masks used by blacksmiths during ceremonies for funerals and initiations.
