Most of our pieces have spent decades on at least two continents, and have been treasured by several owners.   Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use.  We examine each piece carefully when we receive it and report any damage we find in our listings.  Please look carefully at the pictures which may also reveal condition and damage.
Damage/Repair weathered surface with many cracks, chips and cavities. Note: the shape of the statue makes it tip very easily, but it does stand on its own

Additional Information: This charming man with a beard is carved from a single piece of strong, dense wood.  He has notably Dogon features, with raised eyes and a pointed head.  The lean of the figure likely represents an old, hunch backed man.  It is a theme that is regularly found in Dogon statuary.  This is an old piece, with a surface showing significant age.  It is equipped with a custom base for immediate display.

Dogon art is not a single fixed style as has been often characterized in discussions of their sculpture, for the age of Dogon art extends to the past as early as the 12th century and continues to be created in the present with a number of sub-styles measured against the core of an identifiable Dogon art and style. The Dogon interchange stylistic elements with neighboring groups producing an interesting hybridism in some of their interesting sub-styles.
