Additional Information: A Kuba figural comb scuplted from wood and decorated with a beautifully carved figure on top.

In many cultures from the Congo elaborate coiffures were seen as a 'mark of civilization' and an extension of African aesthetics. Complex hairstyles take hours to make and require a structure to support this elegant coiffure. Combs such as this were used to ornament ceremonial coiffures and to untangle the hair.
