Damage/Repair Cracks, chips, scuffs; see pictures for detail.

Additional Information: This well used mask with curved horns has some age and long use obviously indicating significant ritual and symbolic significance for its Fang owners who took great care to repaint the mask over time.  This horned type of Fang mask is rare to find. It would hold a prominent place in a collection of African Art.

For similar piece see Warren M. Robbins & Nancy Ingram Nooter, AFRICAN ART IN AMERICAN COLLECTIONS, p.335, fig. 867;  Perrois Louis, Visions of Africa, FANG, 2006, PL. 51, a similar mask from Centre Georges Pompidou.
