Additional Information: Long handled knives with curved upper blades were used as throwing knives in the past. As warring people came close knives such as these were thrown to injure and penetrate shields.  They have through time become more of an indicator of a man's status or rank during public ceremonies when men would parade or dance holding these knives upright.  The Ngalio are forged with a short crossing blade welded onto the main body of the knife.   This is a fine and well used blade that could well date to the middle of the 19th century.
