Additional Information: A strong and well used sculpture  depicting a standing female figure.  The origin of this figure can be located somewhere between the  Montol or  Goemai  people.

The mountainous region between the northern Benue River and the border with Cameroon contains many small, poorly documented cultures, whose artistic output is limited but very alluring. These groups include the Montol, Jompre, Jukun, Goemai, Koro, Mama, Waja, and the Chamba. Most Montol or goemai works, masks as well as statues, are relatively abstract. Little is known about Montol and Goemai ritual, but they supposedly practice ancestor worship in similar fashion to the Mumuye. Until a careful study of this ancient area, first occupied maybe 40,000 years ago, is undertaken, the cultures of Northern Nigeria, along with their unique ceremonies and carvings, will continue to mystify us.

I have examined this piece and agree with the description.
