Additional Information:  This figure is tentatively attributed to the Wurkun, somewhere in the Benue River Valley, in an area that is still relatively undocumented. This is a region where carvers from one ethnic group would carve or sell figures and masks to other ethnic groups. Therefore styles are often mixed and figures will share stylistic attributes. A number of small localized groups including the Chamba, Mumuye, Montol, Goemai, Mama, Jukun, Wurkum and Jompre produce sculpted figures often sharing styles and sculpted forms. This miniature figure incorporates stylistic elements of neighboring peoples including Mumuye, Jukun and Chamba.  It may represent and ancestor or a culture heroe able to control the forces of nature and intercede in the affairs of humans or were used to divine the causeof illnesses.
