Overall Condition Fair to good. Some of our beads have traveled at least three continents, and have graced numerous owners. Small chips, corrosion, and pitting are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use.

Additional Information: The standing figure atop of the  calabash  helps identify this object with the Zaramo people. 

Hand twisted fiber rope is laced around the calabash.  The calabash has been covered with thin fabric, which has been infused with oblations. These gourds  were used primarily for medicines, sacred and symbolic substances. Tanzanian tribal art is less researched and published than Western and Central art. There are still superb pieces coming out of rural areas.
